Changes to Medicare introduced in 2003:
STANDARD PATIENTS: If doctor charge is under $25.05, patient pays nothing. Patient pays "the gap", being difference between doctor's charge and the Medicare refund.
PENSIONERS, CONCESSION CARDHOLDERS: Same as standard patients, but once they spend out-o-pocket $500 for pathology, Federal Government pays 80% for GP and special services.
